内容简介:Building on Helmholtz' (1866) idea of sensory perception as unconscious inference, Friston et al. (2009) articulates a generally conscious active inference underpinning situation perception. This yields a predictive perceptual process which continually minimizes brain energy expenditure. Attention Weighted Utility  (AWU) formalizes the role of attention in perceiving risky options in a choice situation through which an energy-constrained brain selects what may be worth perceiving, updating, and choosing, so that revealed choice behavior is inherently volatile and often appears stochastic. Each option is represented by an unordered string  of outcomes X = (x₁,...,xₙ) whose entries are affordances comprising signals, contextual cues, and outcomes, including counterfactual ones arising from binary choice. Each element in X has value ν and relative attention weight α > 0. Its certainty equivalent ��(X) takes on the weighted utility form – ν⁻¹(Σᵢα(xᵢ)ν(xᵢ)/Σᵢα(xᵢ)) (Chew, 1983) – and is characterized by two new attention-based axioms which admit energy efficiency interpretation. Betweenness, applied to concatenation XY between two strings X and Y, requires the certainty equivalent of the concatenated string to lie between the certainty equivalents of X and Y. Half-mix consistency is a no-reversal condition: should appending repeated copies of z and w separately have the same ordering between X and Y, appending a half-mix between z and w would not reverse it. In modern living, the decision maker continually divides attention among multiple and changing situations. AWU enables the modeling of decision making under divided attention using a situation-specific attention function while maintaining a stable value function serving as a common utility currency across situations. Besides being consonant with anomalous choice behavior such as Allais behavior, fourfold pattern of risk attitude, and disjunction effect under stable attention, AWU can model a range of situation sensitive choice under unstable attention, including volatile loss aversion, loss-gain framing, source preference including familiarity bias, and correlation preference encompassing regret and salience.


报告人简介:周恕弘教授是新加坡国立大学的荣休教授、西南财经大学首席教授及智慧经济科学研究中心主任,计量经济学会院士、经济学理论促进学会(SAET)院士(Fellow),世界著名的决策理论学家、实验经济学家和行为经济学家,曾执教于美国亚利桑那大学、约翰·霍普金斯大学、加州大学尔湾分校、香港科技大学、新加坡国立大学。其在经济学以及其他学科期刊比如  Econometrica,Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, Management Science, Economic Journal, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Economic Theory, Neuron, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences等发表学术论文多篇。
